How much natural deodorant should you use?

Published August 22, 2026 · Updated September 6, 2026

Short answer: a pea-sized scoop per underarm, once a day, massaged into clean and fully dry skin. That's it. With a fat-based formula, extra product doesn't add protection — it just sits on the surface and can mark a shirt.

Why more doesn't help

Odor control happens at the skin surface. Once the magnesium hydroxide and arrowroot are spread across that surface in a thin film, adding a second layer gives the actives nowhere new to work. The excess stays on top as residue.

The right technique

  1. Wash and dry. Damp skin dilutes the formula and keeps it from spreading thin.
  2. Scoop a pea-sized dab with a clean fingertip — one scoop per underarm.
  3. Warm it 3–5 seconds between your fingers so it melts and spreads.
  4. Massage in circles until it disappears. No white film left behind.
  5. Wait about a minute before dressing.

When to adjust

  • Hot day or hard workout: reapply after, rather than doubling up in the morning.
  • First two weeks off an antiperspirant: stay consistent at the normal dose. Consistency does more than volume.
  • Shirt marks: that's a signal to use less and rub in longer, not to switch products.

How long a jar lasts

At a pea-sized scoop per underarm daily, most people get roughly 6–8 weeks from a jar. If you're going through one in three weeks, you're almost certainly applying too much.
