Every ingredient,
explained.

We use six ingredients across our entire tallow skincare line. Here is what each one does, why we chose it, and what it isn't.

Used in: Tallow Lotion · Tallow Deodorant · Tallow Lip Balm

100% Grass-Fed & Finished Beef Tallow

INCI: Bos Taurus Tallow · Also known as: Rendered beef suet

The foundation of every product we make — a whole-fat moisturizer with a lipid profile remarkably close to human sebum.

Why we use it

Grass-fed and finished tallow is biologically compatible with human skin. Its fatty-acid composition (palmitic, stearic, and oleic acids) closely mirrors the oils your skin already produces, which is why it absorbs cleanly without clogging pores or sitting on top like a synthetic lotion. Cattle finished on pasture (not grain) yield tallow that is significantly richer in the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K2 — the same vitamins your skin uses to repair and renew itself. Conventional tallow from grain-finished cattle has a different fatty-acid ratio and a fraction of the micronutrients.

Common questions

Used in: Tallow Lotion

Organic Jojoba Oil

INCI: Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil

Technically a liquid wax, not an oil — and the closest plant-based match to human sebum on earth.

Why we use it

Jojoba is the only plant-derived lipid whose molecular structure mimics human sebum. That's why it sinks in instead of pooling on the surface. We use cold-pressed, organic jojoba in our whipped lotion to lighten the texture, improve glide, and help carry the tallow deeper into the skin barrier without altering the formula's clean ingredient list.

Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil

INCI: Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil

A naturally antibacterial fat that helps deodorant glide and gives lip balm its smooth, melt-on-contact feel.

Why we use it

Coconut oil is solid at cool temperatures and liquid at skin temperature, which is exactly what we need for a finger-applied deodorant balm and a soft lip balm. Beyond texture, its lauric acid content is naturally antibacterial — useful in a deodorant where odor is caused by bacteria, not sweat itself. We use unrefined (virgin) coconut oil only, never refined or 'fractionated' coconut oil that has been chemically stripped.

Common questions

Used in: Tallow Deodorant

Organic Arrowroot Powder

INCI: Maranta Arundinacea Root Powder

A whole-plant starch that absorbs moisture without irritation — our gentle alternative to baking soda and cornstarch.

Why we use it

Most natural deodorants rely on baking soda to neutralize odor, but baking soda's high pH causes rashes and underarm burns for many people. Arrowroot is a clean, pH-neutral alternative: it absorbs excess moisture and helps the deodorant feel dry on contact, without disrupting the skin's natural acid mantle. It's also less processed than cornstarch and not associated with the same crop concerns.

Common questions

Used in: Tallow Deodorant

Magnesium Hydroxide

INCI: Magnesium Hydroxide · Also known as: Milk of magnesia

The gentle odor-neutralizer behind effective baking-soda-free deodorants.

Why we use it

Magnesium hydroxide neutralizes the acidic byproducts bacteria produce when they break down sweat — which is what odor actually is. It works through pH chemistry, not by killing bacteria or blocking sweat glands. Compared to baking soda, magnesium hydroxide is far gentler on the underarm's acid mantle and almost never triggers the rashes baking soda causes. It's the same compound used in milk of magnesia, with a long safety track record.

Common questions

Used in: Tallow Lip Balm

Natural Beeswax

INCI: Cera Alba

A natural emollient and breathable seal — the reason our lip balm protects without suffocating.

Why we use it

Beeswax forms a breathable layer on the lips that locks in moisture from the tallow without the occlusive 'plastic wrap' feel of petroleum jelly. It's also naturally rich in vitamin A and contains trace amounts of propolis, which has mild antibacterial properties. We use unbleached, unrefined natural beeswax — no bleaching, no clarification with chemical solvents.
