What is a beef tallow moisturizer?
It's a moisturizer where rendered beef tallow is the main — sometimes only — ingredient. Tallow is a traditional fat that's been used on skin for generations and is rich in the types of fats skin naturally contains.
The big difference from conventional lotion is water. Most drugstore lotions are majority water, combined with oils using emulsifiers and kept stable with preservatives. A tallow moisturizer skips the water, so it's denser, richer, and needs fewer supporting ingredients.
Ours, specifically
Lone Star tallow moisturizer is 100% grass-fed and finished beef tallow whipped with organic cold-pressed jojoba. The whipping gives it a soft texture that's easier to spread than plain tallow.
Use it on your body after a shower and on your face at night. A pea-sized amount for an arm, a rice-grain amount for your face.
Ingredients
The full lotion formula — two ingredients
- 1
100% grass-fed & finished beef tallow
A rich, waterless fat that moisturizes and helps reduce moisture loss.
- 2
Organic cold-pressed jojoba
Technically a liquid wax ester, not a seed oil in the usual sense. Lightens the whip and helps it glide.
No water, no emulsifiers, no preservatives, no seed oils. Our unscented lotion has no added fragrance or essential oils; scented versions are sold separately and clearly labeled. Read about every ingredient.

Lone Star Whipped Tallow Lotion
Tallow moisturizer vs. conventional lotion
Typical differences — individual products vary.
- Main ingredient
- Conventional: water. Tallow moisturizer: tallow.
- Emulsifiers
- Conventional: needed to blend oil and water. Tallow: not needed.
- Preservatives
- Conventional: needed because of water. Tallow (waterless): not needed.
- Amount to use
- Conventional: generous. Tallow: small, it's concentrated.
- Feel
- Conventional: light, fast-drying. Tallow: richer, settles in a minute or two.
How much to use
- Start with a pea-sized amount — less than you'd use of a water-based lotion.
- Warm it between your palms for a few seconds until it softens.
- Press and smooth it into skin, ideally while skin is still slightly damp after a shower.
- Give it a minute or two to absorb before dressing.
- Add more only to areas that still feel dry.
