Buyer's guide · Tallow lotion
What Makes a Great Tallow Lotion?
A great tallow lotion comes down to the tallow, what's added to it, and how it feels on your skin. Here's an honest way to compare.

Two ingredients
Grass-fed tallow and organic jojoba.
Grass-fed & finished
Named sourcing.
Hand-whipped
Light, spreadable texture.
No water or preservatives
Nothing to dilute it.
What separates one tallow lotion from another
Tallow lotions have become popular, and they vary more than you'd think. Some list the tallow source; many don't. Some add five or six oils, fragrance, and vitamin blends; others keep it to the tallow and one or two companions.
No lotion is objectively "the best" for everybody. The useful questions are: where does the tallow come from, how many other ingredients are there and why, is fragrance added, and does the texture work for how you'll use it?
How Lone Star answers those questions
Our tallow is 100% grass-fed and finished, slow-rendered in small batches. We whip it with organic cold-pressed jojoba — and that's the whole formula. Our unscented lotion has no added fragrance or essential oils.
Because there's no water, it's concentrated: a small amount covers a lot of skin. Some people love that richness; if you prefer a thin, fast-drying lotion, tallow may take a little getting used to.
Ingredients
The full lotion formula — two ingredients
- 1
100% grass-fed & finished beef tallow
A rich, waterless fat that moisturizes and helps reduce moisture loss.
- 2
Organic cold-pressed jojoba
Technically a liquid wax ester, not a seed oil in the usual sense. Lightens the whip and helps it glide.
No water, no emulsifiers, no preservatives, no seed oils. Our unscented lotion has no added fragrance or essential oils; scented versions are sold separately and clearly labeled. Read about every ingredient.

A quick checklist
- Tallow source
- Grass-fed and finished is the clearest standard.
- Ingredient list
- Every extra ingredient should have a reason. Ours has two.
- Fragrance
- Optional. Choose unscented if you prefer none.
- Texture
- Whipped tallow spreads easily; solid tallow balms are denser.
- Water
- Waterless lotions don't need emulsifiers or preservatives.
How to use it
- Start with a pea-sized amount — less than you'd use of a water-based lotion.
- Warm it between your palms for a few seconds until it softens.
- Press and smooth it into skin, ideally while skin is still slightly damp after a shower.
- Give it a minute or two to absorb before dressing.
- Add more only to areas that still feel dry.
