What magnesium hydroxide does in deodorant
Magnesium hydroxide is a mineral compound — the same one found in milk of magnesia. In deodorant it's used as a fine powder that helps control underarm odor. It isn't an antiperspirant and doesn't reduce sweat.
It's popular in baking-soda-free deodorants because it does a similar job with a gentler feel for many people. It's also insoluble in water, so it stays put in the balm rather than dissolving away.
Why pair it with tallow
A powder needs something to carry it. Tallow is a rich, stable fat that holds magnesium hydroxide and arrowroot in a smooth balm and leaves the underarm conditioned rather than chalky. A little coconut oil keeps the texture soft.
The result is a four-ingredient deodorant where every ingredient has a job you can name.
Ingredients
The full deodorant formula — four ingredients
- 1
100% grass-fed & finished beef tallow
The base. A stable, skin-friendly fat that carries the balm and leaves underarms conditioned.
- 2
Organic cold-pressed unrefined coconut oil
Softens the balm so it spreads at body temperature.
- 3
Organic arrowroot powder
A plant starch that absorbs surface moisture so the balm doesn't feel wet.
- 4
Magnesium hydroxide
A gentle mineral that helps control odor without baking soda.
No aluminum, no baking soda, no beeswax, no seed oils, no synthetic fragrance, no essential oils. It is a deodorant, not an antiperspirant — it helps control odor and does not stop sweat. Read about every ingredient.

How to apply
- Start with clean, dry underarms — right after a shower is ideal.
- Scoop a pea-sized amount with a clean fingertip.
- Hold it against your skin for a few seconds so body heat softens the balm.
- Massage it in until it disappears. Repeat on the other side.
- Reapply later in the day if you need to. Patch test first if your skin is sensitive.
